When you work in certain situations you should know that your work clothes are not going to be any form of fashion statement, they are designed to serve a reason and that purpose is not to attract the opposite sex. All too often I have observed younger members of employees try and argue that they do not want to put on the bright yellow vests and protective ear muffs which are needed in the factory environment.
It is only as we get older that we really begin to appreciate our senses, it is often around the time that we start to get short sighted or hard of hearing. This is the reason why younger employees often have to be pushed to wear the things they dislike, it is the only method to guarantee ear safety and bodily safety.
It isn't that long ago that safety in the workplace was simply ignored. There were some laws about how workers were treated and if someone lost a finger, or worse, there was still someone to replace them. As laws ensuring the protection for workers have increased so the using of protective ear muffs in noisy environments and bright orange or yellow jackets have become the norm in any place where forklifts and lorries move around amongst workers.
It does not take long for a loud recurring noise to do long term hearing damage, the real concern is that the hearing damage may not be evident for months or even years. Obviously when a person decides to not put on their high visibility best and gets run over by a forklift it is even more serious.
The saddest thing I have noticed in factories is that it isn't until someone who works there gets hurt that most people start to take the safety measures seriously. Waiting till it is too late is not a smart way to protect your hearing, or your body.
