What is affiliate marketing anyway? It is simply a marketing model which is built upon your promotion of products which others own for a direct commission, earned as people make their purchases by way of your affiliate link, a specific URL given to you to maintain a tabulation of your sales. This has been explained recently by Andrew Fox in his Affiliate Millionaire product.
Perhaps because the business is so easy to start, many new affiliate marketers don't take time to study how the market works, and damage their career by making three serious mistakes. Luckily, these mistakes are easily avoidable and your online success is practically assured once you know what they are.
Selling Instead of Pre-selling
Are you putting in all your efforts to draft out a sales pitch for your affiliate product? If so, you need to prevent yourself from doing this any more. Believe it or not, as an affiliate, you job is not to sell products. Here is an all-too-common scenario. Suppose a visitor to your site reads your sales pitch, clicks your affiliate link, and then is hit on the very next website with yet another sales pitch. Do you think he/she will want to buy something? It is not likely. People do not want to be bombarded with advertisements. Instead, you need to pre-sell the affiliate product with informative content, not with sales pitches. As an affiliate marketer your site is not the sales page, but merely a place to generate attention. By doing so you complete a vital stage in the buying cycle. Your role is to attract the casual visitor, keep their attention, and then send them on to where they can be transformed from potential customer to client.
Common Promotion Material - The second most common mistake that affiliates make is the choice of the promotion method, or what kind of promotion material they use. Many affiliates do not create the ads that they use. Too many affiliates simply get Internet-leeched ads to use in their marketing compaign. They opt for the lazy way instead of putting in the time and effort to compose original ads that reflect their enthusiasm and personality. Keep in mind that those are perfectly good ads. But the problem is, everybody and their mother is using these same ads for promotion, which kind of makes you lost in the crowd. This will dramatically affect your sales down the road. So that happens to be the second mistake that you should be avoiding.
Avoiding Email List Building
As a rule, most of the visitors to your affiliate site will not buy on the first visit. It takes repeat exposure to land a sale. If you haven't incorporated an opt-in form to your website you are missing an effective way of securing long term profits. A mailing list enables you to follow-up with customers and subscribers all the while building a strong relationship. Relationships have real value and goodwill counts for a lot. As they get to know you better with time, you will see a growth in response from your list eventually giving you a steady stream of profit.
It is by creating several revenue streams that you will be able to make a killing online!
